I started my contractions around 8:30pm while watching television. They were coming every 7 minutes for the first few
hours. Martin and I decided to go for a walk around 10pm, after I watched Big Brother 5.
We took a long walk, and ended up at my parents. They were still up and we decided to watch television with them
there. My contractions came quicker and closer together - about every 3-5 minutes apart.
Martin and I decided that it was time to goto the hospital, so we walked back home and got everything prepared/ready
(overnight bag, baby bag, camera, pillow, etc...). My mom picked us up and we went to the hospital.
It was 12:00am by the time we got there and my contractions were definately closer and getting stronger. My nurse, Anne,
admitted us and it all got faster from then on.
At 2:30am, they decided to move me into the delivery room since I had already progressed to about 4-5cm dilated. YOUPPIE
:) They gave me some pain medication, since the contractions were coming at every 1.5 - 2 minutes and were lasting approximately
45-60 seconds each - which didn't give me a lot of time in between the contractions. The medication helped me sleep/relax.
Martin and my Mom helped a lot. She held my hand and rubbed my back, while Martin wiped my face with a cold washcloth
(my favorite part!). He was so incredibly helpful and loving - Always making sure that I was comfortable. I don't know
what I would have done without those two very important people!!!
Around 5:05 - 5:10 am, I felt that I needed to push. The nurse examined me and said I was up to 7-8cm, which was
good, but the medication was wearing off and I couldn't keep quiet any longer. I started whimpering (as Martin would call
it) and sometimes I even screamed (when they made me go doggy style position to get little Miss Kennedy to turn around inside
of me - she was facing upwards instead of having her head down).
At 5:15 - 5:20 am, I wanted to push. The nurse had already paged Dr. Waja at 5am since she knew Kennedy was coming quickly.
I went to the bathroom just a few minutes before and I felt something hot between my legs. When I got to the bed, my water
burst (ouch - it burned!). Kennedy's head was already coming down too! The nurses couldn't believe it, and rushed to get the
bed, and equipment ready for the delivery.
After just a little push or two, Miss Kennedy was born at 5:22am! I couldn't believe it :) Martin had just looked at
me to tell me that she was almost there....that her head was out, and then he looks again, and SHE'S THERE!!! Martin even
got to cut the cord.
Martin and my Mom cried. I was still medicated and fell asleep quickly afterwards, but every now and then, between my
little sleep winks I was looking at our beautiful baby girl, wishing I could hold her. Martin hugged my Mom and kissed/hugged
me. He was crying! He was so happy and ecstatic!!! He stayed with Kennedy the whole time they cleaned her and took care of
her (eye ointment, bath, cord clamp,...). They finally brought her to me after a few minutes. She felt so warm and looked
so PERFECT! She was finally here!!!
Dr. Waja came in a few minutes later and laughed...Haha, "Mrs. Allard, I didn't think I'd see you here today!" I had
been to see him on tuesday (the 27th) and we had decided to get an enducing on the 4th of August, since my cervix didn't look
favorable!!! HAHAHA...I guess Dr. Waja has magic fingers, since I started my contractions a few hours after he examined me.
The same thing happened with Kylan (he checked me on tuesday, I had Kylan on wednesday).
